Why is a person missing from the People album in Synology Photos?

QUICK ANSWER

Check recognition support, the correct photo space and indexing progress. Face grouping can miss a person even when the original photo is visible.

Applies to: Synology Photos on NAS models that support the relevant face-recognition features. Permissions and recognition settings differ between Personal Space and Shared Space.

Work through these checks

  1. Confirm that your exact NAS model supports face recognition and that the feature is enabled for the space containing the photos. A user viewing another space may not see the same People albums.
  2. Allow recognition/indexing to complete, especially after a large import. Check package and system status rather than repeatedly uploading the same photographs.
  3. Review the images themselves. Small, blurred, turned-away or partly obscured faces may not be recognised consistently. Test with a clear front-facing photo of the person.
  4. On supported Photos versions, use the manual person-tagging or People-album management controls to correct missing or incorrectly grouped faces. Check permissions before editing Shared Space albums.

Confirm the result

Open the original photo and the intended People album using the same account and space. Confirm the correction with a few representative photos before changing a large collection.

If you need help

Include these details in your ticket: NAS model, DSM/Photos version, Personal or Shared Space, recognition status and a redacted screenshot of the problem. Avoid sending private family photos unless needed and authorised.
