Frequently Asked Question
General: Why does my Synology NAS have a single volume size limitation of 16TB?
Last Updated 8 years ago
Owing to a technical limitation of certain Synology NAS models1, the size of a single volume on such models is thus limited to 16 terabytes (TB). However, you can create multiple volumes on RAID with each one under 16TB.
Note:
- For more information on the limitation of each Synology NAS model, please refer to the items of Maximum Single Volume Size and Maximum Internal Volume Number in its specifications.
- If your installed drives using Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) have a total raw capacity greater than 16TB, please contact Synology Support Team for assistance to convert the single volume to multiple volumes on the SHR configuration.
