Frequently Asked Question

General: Which Synology NAS models support WOL (Wake on LAN)?
Last Updated 8 years ago

Most Synology NAS models support power recovery or Wake on LAN (WOL). Please see the table below for the models that do not support the power recovery or WOL feature. Support for Wake on WAN requires switches or routers which recognize the Magic Packet.

Once WOL has been enabled, the Synology NAS server can be powered-on over the local area network or the Internet by using a WOL application. The IP address (or DDNS hostname) and the MAC address of the NAS server will be required to execute this command.

Please note that WOL will only be supported if the NAS server has been properly shutdown and the power-cable remains connected to a valid power source. If power is cut off externally, such as when the power cable is suddenly unplugged, or in the event of an area-wide power failure, WOL will not function.

Models Not Supporting WOL
RS812, RS212, DS216se, DS214se, DS212j, DS115j, DS112j, EDS14

Note:
  • For DS1815+ and DS1515+: To set up a startup schedule, please ensure that the NAS server will be supplied with continuous power. If the NAS server experiences any temporary interruption of power supply, it may automatically power on when it is reconnected with power supply.
