NVR: How to customize the transport protocol for my IP camera?
Last Updated 8 years ago
Once you set up an IP camera in Surveillance Station, you can configure the advanced device settings to fine-tune the video streaming performance according to your need and preference.
In the Edit Camera window of your IP camera, go to Device Settings > Advanced, and you will see the following options in the Transport protocol drop-down list in the RTSP & RTP Setting section:
In the Edit Camera window of your IP camera, go to Device Settings > Advanced, and you will see the following options in the Transport protocol drop-down list in the RTSP & RTP Setting section:
- Auto: Surveillance Station will automatically try to establish the RTSP connection by using the protocols in the following order: UDP → TCP → HTTP. If the camera is disconnected, Surveillance Station will use the last protocol to resume the connection.
- UDP: UDP provides lower latency and higher transfer rate. However, this protocol may deliver lower video quality through lack of network bandwidth for not having a retransmission mechanism.
- TCP: TCP provides higher video quality. However, the retransmission mechanism of this protocol may consume more network bandwidth, and delivers higher latency through lack of network bandwidth.
- HTTP: HTTP is an extension of TCP. By using this protocol, video streaming over the Internet can avoid firewall restrictions.
