The ext4 and Btrfs1 file systems are supported in DSM 6.0 and above. You can create a volume in either of these file systems according to your needs and preference. Below are our suggestions on which file system to use for creating a volume.

Btrfs ext4

  • Data protection features, e.g., snapshot, replication, and point-in-time recovery
  • Data integrity protection
  • User quotas for each shared folder
  • Compatible with most LINUX operating systems
  • Higher performance and less hardware requirements than Btrfs
Main purposes of your volume
  • Activating Docker DSM
  • Using network shared storages for virtualized environments or database applications
  • Using the following functions or packages with performance-oriented requirements:
    • iSCSI LUNs
    • File server
