NVR: How to operate the fisheye dewarping feature in Surveillance Station?
Last Updated 8 years ago

Overview

Synology Surveillance Station provides an expert solution for live-viewing and playing back fisheye camera footage in rectilinear or panoramic views. By setting up multiple viewing regions and dewarping types, you can easily gain insight into the overall dynamics of your environment.

1. Before you start

  • Make sure you have already got an IP camera which supports the fisheye dewarping feature.
(Refer to the Surveillance Station IP camera support list.)
  • Make sure you have set up such IP cameras in your Surveillance Station. (Watch this video tutorial.)

2. Configure the device settings for your fisheye camera

According to your need and preference, you can set different mount types and video channels for your fisheye camera.
  1. In IP Camera, double-click the fisheye camera to launch the Edit Camera window.
  2. Go to the tab of Device Settings > Information.
  3. According to the placement of your fisheye camera, you can set the most suitable Mount Type (Ceiling mount, Wall mount, and Floor mount) in Surveillance Station to achieve the best result of fisheye dewarping.

    Note:

    • Cameras of different mount types will employ different fisheye dewarping algorithms. You must therefore select the correct mount type for your IP camera.
  4. According to your need and preference, you can select Original View from the Video channel drop-down list to use the fisheye dewarping feature powered by Surveillance Station. You can also choose to use your camera's built-in dewarping function, and the camera will directly output the processed footages.

    Note:

    • Certain fisheye camera's video type is configurable in Field of view in the Video tab.
    • For more information, please refer to the following chapters.

3. Operate the fisheye dewarping feature provided by the IP camera

Certain surveillance products come with built-in fisheye dewarping functions. When employing this function, your camera will directly output the processed footages. The dewarping capability depends on the brands and models of your fisheye cameras.

  • In the Video channel drop-down list, select one of the options other than Original View. A confirmation message will appear, and click Yes to continue.
  • According to your need, you can add more video channels of the same camera to IP Camera. One camera with the same IP address requires only one surveillance device license no matter hom many video channels are set based on such device.

4. Operate the fisheye dewarping feature powered by Surveillance Station

To operate the fisheye dewarping feature powered by Synology Surveillance Station, you need to select Original View as the video channel in IP Camera. The application of Fisheye Dewarping will then be configurable.
  • Select a fisheye camera of which the video channel has been set as Original View, and click Fisheye Dewarping in the Applications panel at the bottom.
  • Click "+" to add a dewarping item.
  • Enter a short description in the Name field for the newly added dewarping item, and select the dewarping type in the Type drop-down list. When the setup is complete, click Save.

    Note:

    • Please refer to the following descriptions of different dewarping types:
      • Region: For a small viewing area with a PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) capable camera.
      • Panorama: For a panoramic viewing area.
      • Double Panorama: For adjusting two panorama regions.
      • Triple View: For adjusting two regions and a panorama.
      • Quad View: For adjusting four regions.
    • Double Panorama and Triple View is not available when using a wall mounted camera setting.
    • You can preview the dewarped footage in the right of the window. When you click Original View button, you can drag the colored region in the pop-up window to adjust the view angle.
  • To apply the dewarping items to your live-view channels, please go to Live View, and launch the Layout Management page. Drag a dewarping item of your fisheye camera to a channel of your selected layout. When the setup is complete, click Save.

Note:

  • The fisheye dewarping feature powered by Surveillance Station may consume more CPU resources on your PC than fisheye camera's built-in dewarping function.
  • When the original view is employed as the video channel, the archived recordings of the fisheye camera will be the raw video footages instead of the dewarped ones. You can still view the dewarped footage in the built-in Recording Player and Timeline application.
  • The fisheye dewarping feature powered by Surveillance Station is currently supported in PC browsers only. If you wish to watch the dewarped footages on NVR Local Display, VisualStation VS360HD/VS240HD, or DS cam, please use the camera's built-in dewarping funtions.
