Why can Qsirch not find a new file that I can open on the NAS?

If a new file opens from the NAS but Qsirch does not return it, check search scope and indexing settings before rebuilding anything. A filename search, document-content search and AI image query also test different capabilities.

  1. Establish one repeatable example. Sign in as the affected user, confirm the file opens in File Station, and record its exact folder and filename. Search that filename with unnecessary categories, dates and other result filters cleared. Do not change permissions merely to obtain a search result.
  2. Review excluded folders. An administrator can open Qsirch > Settings > Administrator setting > Exclude folders in the current quick-start interface. Check whether the file’s folder is intentionally excluded. Older interfaces place exclusions under Settings without that section label. Remove only the specific exclusion that the owner has approved.
  3. Check the appropriate content source. For multimedia/AI image searches, open Multimedia Console > Content Management > Qsirch > Edit and confirm the intended source folder. Ensure multimedia indexing is enabled when using those features. This does not mean every ordinary document search requires an AI engine.
  4. Separate format and feature requirements. Test a supported filename or simple text document before an image-content query. AI semantic features require the appropriate Qsirch version, supported resources and QNAP AI Core; a working basic search does not establish that all AI functions are configured.
  5. Allow indexing to complete, then retest. Use the same account, filename and folder. Verify both that the expected result appears and that it opens. A file that only another account can read needs an access review, rather than a broader index.

Preserve the existing configuration. Do not delete the index, reinstall Qsirch or grant broad folder access as the first remedy. Avoid adding confidential folders to indexing without the owner’s approval.

If the test still fails, submit an ACE Support ticket with Qsirch/firmware versions, file type, redacted folder settings and the exact search used. Provide a harmless sample only when authorised.
