Virtualization Station: Networking modes of Virtualization Station

Virtualization Station supports three different networking modes for Virtual Switch connections: bridged, External-only and isolated. These modes allow you to build a specific virtual network environment for virtual machines (VMs) and make applications run by these VMs more efficient, flexible and secure.
Throughout the Virtual Switch, network traffic can be transferred efficiently and flexibly. Using bridged networking can route the traffic inside NAS as internal transfer, while setting External-only networking allows the traffic being processed with dedicated bandwidth. The networking mode can be dynamically changed based on application needs. As shown below, the vSwitch Controller receives the signal from VM Orchestrator and co-operates with Virtual Switch so that the traffic flow can be directed by the configured networking mode.
Attaching an Ethernet interface (Port-trunking available) to a Virtual Switch creates a bridged network. The NAS and the Virtual Switch can share the same Ethernet interface without conflicts and it supports high-speed data transfer via internal routing.
External-only Networking
After attaching an Ethernet interface to a Virtual Switch, the IP address of the interface will be changed to 0.0.0.0 and the interface then will be dedicated to the Virtual Switch. However, VMs connected to the Virtual Switch cannot access the NAS internally and instead use the outside gateway.
Isolated Networking
Not attaching any Ethernet interface to a Virtual Switch creates an isolated network. Manually setting the IP address of VMs can enable communication between VMs connected to the same Virtual Switch.
What is the Virtual Switch of Virtualization Station?
Network adaptors of VMs can connect to a Virtual Switch. The Virtual Switch connects the network of virtual machines to physical network adapters. The Virtual Switch can be setup in three different modes, which each mode meeting specific purposes such as dedicated network environments and fast data transfer between NAS and VM.
