Google have disabled NPAPI by default as of April 2015 (Chrome 42). Google will also permanently remove NPAPI support from Chrome in September 2015 (Chrome 45). Before Chrome 45 is released, you can temporarily re-enable the NPAPI plugin by the following steps:
Enter chrome://flags/#enable-npapi, enable NPAPI, and restart Chrome.
After restarting Chrome, go to chrome://plugins and check if the VLC Web Plugin is enabled.
