Frequently Asked Question
General: Why does my NAS system log report that the “File system is not clean”?
Last Updated 4 years ago
You will see a “File system is not clean” message if a volume containing data was not properly unmounted. This might happen in the following situations:
- The NAS experienced an abnormal shutdown or forced power off.
- Some services were not stopped correctly before a NAS shutdown.
If you see this message, you should check the file system of the volume to repair any possible errors.
Checking the File System of a Volume
For NAS Models Running QTS 4.2 or Later
- Log in to QTS.
- Go to Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Storage/Snapshots.
- Select a volume, and then click Manage.
The Volume Management window opens. - Select Actions > Check File System.
For NAS Models Running QTS 4.1.x or Earlier
- Log in to QTS.
- Go to Control Panel > System Settings > Storage Manager > Volume Management.
- Click Check File System.
If you still see a “File system is not clean” message after running a file system check, restart the NAS. If this does not resolve the problem, you can contact QNAP technical support by visiting the following link: https://helpdesk.qnap.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit.
