Frequently Asked Question
My Foscam camera looks clear by day but white or foggy at night. What should I check?
QUICK ANSWER
Infrared light reflecting from glass, a nearby wall or dirt can wash out night video. Compare the camera’s night-light mode and its surroundings before assuming the image sensor has failed.
Applies to: Foscam cameras with infrared or spotlight night modes; available controls vary by model.
Work through these checks
- Compare a daytime frame with a night frame from the same position. Note whether haze begins exactly when infrared or a spotlight turns on, and whether there is real moisture inside or outside the lens cover.
- Check for a window in front of an indoor camera, a close wall/eave, protective film, spider webs or dirt. Clean only the accessible exterior using the manufacturer’s permitted method and keep the equipment safely supported.
- For a camera behind glass, test with infrared illumination disabled through its supported control and suitable external lighting. This is a diagnosis, not a promise that an indoor camera can replace a correctly installed outdoor model.
- For outdoor models, review the selected night mode and repositioning with the installer if nearby surfaces reflect light. Persistent condensation, a damaged seal or moisture inside the housing needs service assessment.

Confirm the result
Night footage retains useful detail across the intended area without a bright reflected patch. Confirm that detection and recording still cover the required scene.
Before going further: Do not open a weatherproof housing, cover cooling openings or work at height without proper access. Preserve the installed camera’s weather protection.
If you need help
