How to Fix "Modules Update Failed" Error Messages
Last Updated 7 months ago

Issue

  • The system displays the error code "error 0073."
  • You encounter the message "Modules update failed."

Solution

For both Mac and Android Users, please check if the update works after completing each step. If the update is unsuccessful, continue to the next step.

General Steps for All Users

  1. Update Your Software: Make sure you're running the latest version of your ESET product.
  2. Check Disk Space: Verify that the partition where your ESET product is installed has a minimum of 1 GB free space.
  3. License Key: Re-enter the license key provided by ESET.
  4. License Validity: Ensure your license hasn't expired.
  5. Update Cache: Clear the update cache.
  6. Previous Antivirus: Uninstall any pre-existing antivirus software.
  7. Third-party Firewall: If you have a non-ESET firewall (like Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc.), add ESET to its exceptions list. Skip this step if you're using ESET's firewall.

For Windows Users Not Using HTTP Proxy

  1. Open your ESET product's main program window.
  2. Press F5 for Advanced setup.
  3. Navigate to Update > Profiles > Updates > Connection Options and choose "Do not use proxy server" from the Proxy mode dropdown. Confirm with OK.

Note for Business Users: If the HTTP Proxy settings are read-only, this means they are enforced by ESET PROTECT, ESET Security Management Center, or ESET Remote Administrator.

  • ESET PROTECT 10.x: Revoke the setting from the ESET PROTECT Web Console. If you can't access the ESET PROTECT Server, uninstall the ESET PROTECT Agent and reinstall ESET endpoint products using ESET PROTECT.

Testing Connection to ESET Update Server

  1. Press Windows key + R, type cmd and hit Enter.
  2. Type ping update.eset.com and press Enter.
    • Successful connection is indicated by a "Reply from" message with the IP address.image

Other Measures

  • Reinstall: If all else fails, uninstall and then reinstall your ESET product.
  • Malware Cleanup: Perform a thorough system scan to remove any malware affecting your machine.
