Frequently Asked Question
Why does my HiTi P525L print a white vertical line or scratch on every photo?
QUICK ANSWER
Compare where the line appears on repeated prints. Dirt on the thermal printhead can cause a consistent unprinted line, while a persistent line after correct cleaning needs service assessment.
Applies to: HiTi P525L photo printer with its supported paper/ribbon kit. This is different from a CS-series ID card printer.
Work through these checks
- Print the same test image twice and mark the line position relative to the paper edge. Also test a different image to separate an image-file defect from a printer defect.
- Check for dust or damaged media and handle the ribbon/paper by their intended holders. Do not touch the thermal head or printable surface with fingers.
- Follow the P525L cleaning procedure: switch off safely, allow the head to cool and use the specified cleaning material. HiTi's white-line guidance specifies a non-woven cleaning material and high-purity alcohol for the head; do not spray liquid into the printer.
- Allow the cleaned area to dry fully, reload the media correctly and print another test. If the line stays in exactly the same position, stop repeated cleaning and request assessment.
Confirm the result
Compare before/after test prints under the same lighting. Keep one marked sample for diagnosis.
Before going further: Do not scrape the head, use abrasive tools or dismantle the cutter/print mechanism.
