Frequently Asked Question
Why does Insta360 X5 underwater footage have visible seams even though the camera is waterproof?
QUICK ANSWER
Waterproofing and underwater 360 stitching are different. Water changes refraction, so Insta360 recommends the compatible Invisible Dive Case for better underwater 360 stitching.
Applies to: Insta360 X5 in 360 Mode with the exact compatible underwater case and stitching settings.
Work through these checks
- Identify whether the clip was recorded bare-camera or inside an X5-compatible Invisible Dive Case. A waterproof depth rating does not promise seamless bare-camera 360 footage underwater.
- Before another water test, inspect the camera and case seals and closures according to their manuals. Remove lens guards as instructed; they are not sealed underwater accessories.
- Select the correct dive-case/accessory stitching setting in the supported camera/app/Studio workflow. Keep the case clean, aligned and free of fogging.
- Make a short controlled test and inspect the exported view around the seam and below the camera. Keep subjects clear of the nearest stitching area where practical.
Confirm the result
Judge an underwater export using the matching case setting. An above-water preview cannot confirm the underwater result.
Before going further: Dry the camera before opening the battery or USB cover. If seals are damaged or moisture has entered, stop using/charging it and arrange assessment.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: Camera/firmware, case model, accessory setting and a short sample showing the seam. Include whether lens guards were fitted.
