Frequently Asked Question
Why does Insta360 Studio say the LRV master file is missing or fail to import my INSV video?
QUICK ANSWER
LRV files are preview/proxy files, not substitutes for the original INSV video. Copy the complete original recording set and keep its original filenames.
Applies to: X-series 360 recordings imported into Insta360 Studio. File layouts differ between camera generations and modes.
Work through these checks
- Copy the full recording from the card or camera into one local folder. Keep original names and extensions. An LRV file alone cannot recover the full-resolution recording.
- Check the model's file layout. X3 commonly uses a paired 360 video set, while X4 and X5 use one main VID file containing both lenses. Do not delete a file simply because it appears to be a duplicate.
- Import the original master and its associated files using current Studio. Renaming LRV to INSV or MP4 does not create the missing original video.
- If the complete set still fails, compare file sizes and try another intact clip from the same camera. Preserve the failing original and test file repair on a copy where supported.
Confirm the result
Check both lenses, audio and the full clip duration in Studio before erasing or reusing the card. A low-resolution preview is not proof that the original is intact.
