Insta360 X5: Why are there visible stitching lines after fitting lens guards or replacing a lens?

ACE SUPPORT · INSTA360

A visible join can come from accessory settings, close subjects or lens calibration. Compare a short exported test before deciding that the camera needs repair.

Applies to

Insta360 X5, with or without official lens guards; Insta360 app and Studio. The calibration steps here are for X5 and must not be applied to X3 or ONE X2.

Before you begin

Calibration is not a substitute for repairing a damaged lens. Do not calibrate with lens guards attached, even if an owner post suggests doing so. Keep the original media.

Work through these checks

  1. Keep an untouched original clip and note which lens guards, filters or covers were fitted. Check the X5 firmware and editing software against the current official releases.
  2. In the Insta360 app, open the clip in Album, then Settings > Accessories. Select the accessory actually used; select None when shooting without one. In Studio, check the lens stitching option under its accessory/stitching controls. A no-guard clip processed with a guard profile can produce an incorrect join.
  3. Record a controlled comparison with a main lens facing the subject rather than placing the subject on the side seam. For a bare X5, keep subjects at least 0.6 m away around the camera and 0.8 m below it. Avoid judging the join with a hand immediately under the lenses.
  4. Compare the exported result with the camera preview. Preview stitching is simplified. Try the official software's AI or Optical Flow stitching option where available.
  5. If a lens was replaced, perform Stitching Calibration. Remove every guard, case and cover first. Use a bright, open outdoor area with large distant objects around 10 m away. Go to Shortcut menu > Settings > Stitching Calibration and follow the prompts, holding the camera still away from your body.

Confirm the result

Export the same short scene using the matching accessory setting. Look across the join while a subject crosses it, and compare the before/after files at the same viewing angle.
