Insta360 X Series: Storage, Recording Stops and Heat Warnings

ACE KNOWLEDGE BASE · INSTA360

Check the active storage, card specification and exact warning before changing anything.

Check the selected storage and the displayed warning before changing settings. Recording can stop for different reasons, including insufficient storage, an unsuitable card or thermal protection. A warm camera alone does not identify a failed component.

1. Confirm Where the Camera Is Saving

X6 has built-in storage and can also use a microSD card. Its storage page lets you select the active medium. Other X Series models have different storage arrangements, so check the exact model rather than assuming a card is always optional.

2. Check the Card Specification

The current X Series guide recommends UHS-I, V30 or higher microSD/TF media formatted as exFAT. It warns that UHS-II/UHS-III cards can cause compatibility problems. X2, X3, X4, X4 Air, X5 and X6 support up to 1 TB; ONE X has a different limit.

If formatting is being considered, first copy and verify the files you need. Formatting erases card contents; it is not the first step when footage still needs recovery.

3. Read the Warning and Check Conditions

Note the recording mode, remaining storage, card model and exact error. For heat warnings, stop recording and allow the camera to cool naturally in a shaded, ventilated place. Avoid prolonged operation in direct sun or still, hot air, and avoid recording while charging where practical.

Do not put a hot camera into water to cool it. Do not open the casing or bypass temperature protection.

4. Check the Result Before Continuing

After the camera is ready, review the last saved clip and try a short, supervised recording under suitable conditions. Keep the original files if the fault repeats.

Send our Support Specialist the exact camera/card models, firmware, recording settings, warning and time until it stops. A redacted warning screenshot is more useful than repeated resets.
