Frequently Asked Question
Insta360 X5: What should I check when the camera will not charge or turn on?
ACE SUPPORT · INSTA360
Start with the charging path and battery rather than repeated button presses. A depleted X5 can take several minutes to show its charging screen.
Applies to
Insta360 X5 only. Charger recommendations and indicator behaviour differ across X-series models. This guide addresses an unresponsive camera or a battery that does not gain charge.
Before you begin
Do not charge a wet or damaged camera or use an abnormal battery. These tests do not justify opening the camera body. Preserve the card contents; formatting is not a charging diagnostic.
Work through these checks
- Check for an obvious damaged USB-C port, moisture or an abnormal battery before connecting power. Record the indicator colour and whether the screen responds. If liquid ingress or damage is evident, stop and arrange inspection.
- Use the original charging cable with a suitable supply. Insta360 recommends 5 V/3 A, or 9 V/3 A with PD 3.0 PPS for X5. Test a known-good compliant cable and charger separately so you know which change makes a difference.
- Allow at least 5–10 minutes before judging an extremely flat battery. For a camera that will not power on, the official troubleshooting route also calls for a 20-minute charge, followed by a brief press of the Power button.
- If a spare compatible battery is available, test it. A camera that charges with the spare but not the original provides useful evidence of a battery-specific fault.
- For a dry, undamaged camera that still will not start, follow the official isolation sequence: power off, remove the battery, keep the card inserted and test USB power; next test battery only with the card removed; finally test USB power with both removed. Note each outcome and switch off/disconnect between changes.
Confirm the result
After recovery, confirm the battery percentage increases while charging and that the camera can start normally from battery power. Record the charger, cable and battery used for the successful test.
When to contact us
Submit Ticket if the port is damaged, no suitable charging combination works, or the camera still needs USB power to start. Include the indicator sequence, test outcomes and whether the fault followed water use or an update.
