Frequently Asked Question
Why is my UniFi 6 GHz Wi-Fi network missing from my phone or laptop?
QUICK ANSWER
Check that both the access point and the client support 6 GHz. Wi-Fi 7 branding alone does not mean that an access point has a 6 GHz radio.
Applies to: UniFi Network with a 6 GHz-capable access point and a compatible Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 client.
Work through these checks
- Check the exact AP specification first. For example, U7-Lite is a dual-band model; a software setting cannot add a missing radio. Confirm the client's wireless adapter, operating system and driver also support 6 GHz.
- Check that the installation country supports the intended 6 GHz operation and use firmware approved for that region. Do not select a different country to unlock channels.
- Review the SSID's band and security settings. The 6 GHz connection requires compatible security, including protected management frames. Use the security options supported by your Network version and clients; an old WPA2-only client cannot join 6 GHz.
- Test nearby with a known-compatible client. Ubiquiti recommends including 5 GHz with 6 GHz to improve discovery rather than starting with a 6 GHz-only SSID.
Confirm the result
Confirm the client's connected band in UniFi. Seeing the SSID without confirming the band does not prove a 6 GHz connection.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: AP model, installation country, Network/AP versions, client adapter and OS, and a screenshot of the SSID band/security settings. Hide the Wi-Fi password.
