UniFi AP or Switch Not Appearing, Offline or Managed by Another Console

ACE KNOWLEDGE BASE · UBIQUITI

Check status, power, network path and the intended UniFi host in order.

These first checks apply to UniFi Network access points and switches. UniFi Protect, Access and UISP products have their own adoption procedures.

1. Record the status before changing anything

Note the exact model, displayed status, LED pattern, firmware version and when the problem began. Check whether the device is new, was previously working, or was moved from another site. Do not interrupt an update.

2. Check power and the connection path

  1. Confirm the device has power and that the Ethernet uplink is connected.
  2. Check the required PoE standard and power source for the exact model. A data-only port will not power a PoE device.
  3. Where it is safe to interrupt service, try a known-good patch cable and a suitable port to separate a cable or port fault from the device.

3. Check the intended UniFi Network host

Confirm that you are viewing the correct site and that its UniFi Network application is running. For normal local adoption, check that the device and application are on the intended network. A discovered new device should show Pending Adoption.

If it is missing or offline, check its DHCP lease and management IP address. Ask the administrator to review the switch port's native/tagged VLANs and the path to DHCP and the UniFi host. For UniFi Network, TCP 8080 connectivity is relevant; advanced cross-subnet adoption needs the official deployment-specific instructions.

4. Preserve existing management

If the device reports Managed by Another Console, confirm the original host and ownership with the administrator. Migration requires the existing configuration and backup to be considered. Do not factory-reset, forget or re-adopt a production device merely to clear the message.
