Frequently Asked Question
How can I recover a file overwritten or changed through ASUSTOR EZ Sync?
QUICK ANSWER
Pause further changes and check EZ Sync's saved versions. A synchronised folder can copy an unwanted edit to other devices, so sync alone is not an independent backup.
Applies to: ASUSTOR EZ Sync client with EZ Sync Manager on ADM. Recovery depends on versions retained before the unwanted change.
Work through these checks
- Stop editing the affected file and pause the relevant sync task if changes are still spreading. Keep a separate copy of any good version found on another device.
- Check that you are using the intended NAS account and sync folder. Compare the file path and modification time across the computer and EZ Sync Manager.
- In EZ Sync Manager, inspect the available historical versions for that file. Choose a version from before the unwanted edit and preview or recover it through the supported controls.
- Save the recovered copy separately first where the workflow allows, check its contents, then resume sync deliberately. Keep independent backups for files whose loss would affect the business.
Confirm the result
Open the recovered file in its normal application and confirm the expected content. Check one other synced device after resuming to ensure the intended version is present.
Before going further: Do not reset the sync database or delete/recreate the task before checking retained versions. If no suitable version exists, recovery is not guaranteed.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: ADM/EZ Sync versions, affected path with private names redacted, event time and available version history.
