Why is my ASUSTOR NAS still full after I delete large files?

QUICK ANSWER

Check the Network Recycle Bin and retained snapshots. Deleting a visible file may leave a recoverable copy or blocks still referenced by a snapshot.

Applies to: ADM shared folders, with Network Recycle Bin and, on supported volumes, Snapshot Center.

Work through these checks

  1. Check Storage Manager to identify the full volume. Compare actual volume usage rather than only the size of one shared folder.
  2. Inspect the affected share's Network Recycle Bin. Recover any needed files first, then remove only items whose retention is no longer required. Bin settings can apply across enabled shares.
  3. On supported Btrfs volumes, inspect Snapshot Center's retention and locked snapshots. Older snapshots may intentionally preserve deleted file contents.
  4. Review backup/versioned app data and ongoing transfers as well. Adjust a deliberate retention policy rather than deleting unknown system folders or all recovery points.

Confirm the result

After the intended cleanup completes, recheck the same volume's free space. Confirm that required backup and recovery points remain available.

Before going further: Emptying a recycle bin or deleting a snapshot removes that recovery option. Confirm backups and retention needs before proceeding; do not remove locked business records casually.

If you need help

Include these details in your ticket: ADM version, volume/file-system type, usage figures, recycle-bin settings and snapshot-retention screenshots with filenames redacted.
