Frequently Asked Question
Can I add more equipment to my Ablerex UPS without overloading it?
QUICK ANSWER
Check both the UPS watt and VA limits, the present load and startup demand. A spare outlet or a low idle reading does not establish enough capacity for another device.
Applies to: Ablerex UPS installations being expanded with servers, NAS, network or surveillance equipment.
Work through these checks
- Record the exact UPS rating in both W and VA and its current measured load. List every connected device, including PoE loads supplied through switches, rather than counting power plugs.
- Check the proposed equipment's normal and maximum demand and any startup/inrush requirement. Compare the combined load with both UPS limits and the manufacturer's supported equipment guidance.
- Recalculate the required runtime and graceful-shutdown sequence. A load can remain within capacity yet reduce battery runtime below the time needed to stop applications safely.
- Check the output PDU, plug/socket, branch-circuit and cable ratings with the responsible installer. Plan the addition in a maintenance window and observe a representative workload, keeping suitable capacity for expected growth.
Confirm the result
Record load under normal and peak operation and confirm the required backup/shutdown performance through an approved test. Do not rely on the first few seconds after plugging in.
Before going further: Do not attach high-inrush appliances or a laser printer to the battery-backed output without explicit model approval. Electrical upgrades and on-site power assessments are chargeable professional work.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: UPS W/VA rating, current load, proposed equipment models and demand, runtime target, battery configuration and power-distribution layout.
