Frequently Asked Question
My Ablerex UPS powers equipment normally but everything stops during a power cut. Why?
QUICK ANSWER
Check the operating mode, load and battery status. Equipment receiving power while mains is present does not prove that a working battery-backed path is available.
Applies to: Ablerex UPS installations that fail to sustain the connected load during a real outage.
Work through these checks
- Record the front-panel mode, alarms and event time after the incident. Distinguish normal online/inverter operation from a bypass indication; do not assume an illuminated display means full backup protection.
- Confirm the affected equipment is connected to the intended UPS output path. Trace external PDUs and any maintenance-bypass arrangement using the installation diagram, without operating bypass switches.
- Compare the actual load with the UPS rating and check for battery, overload or fault messages. Note whether a battery was recently replaced, disconnected for service or left insufficiently charged.
- Arrange an approved test with the responsible administrator or service provider. Protect production workloads and confirm graceful shutdown first. A model-supported self-test or separate controlled test load may be appropriate after the fault is assessed.
Confirm the result
Only a planned successful backup test with a suitable load confirms the intended power path. Record the mode, load and result; do not rely solely on the absence of an alarm after mains returns.
Before going further: Do not unplug a loaded production UPS, open its enclosure or change maintenance-bypass positions without an approved plan and qualified personnel.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: UPS model, front-panel photo, load, alarm/event details, battery history and a simple output/PDU/bypass diagram.
