Frequently Asked Question
My Ablerex UPS shows Bypass. Does my equipment still have battery backup?
QUICK ANSWER
Treat Bypass as a mode that needs investigation. The load may be receiving utility power through the bypass path rather than the normal inverter path, so normal backup protection must not be assumed.
Applies to: Ablerex online UPS systems with a bypass indication. Internal static bypass and an external maintenance bypass are different arrangements.
Work through these checks
- Record the exact model, panel indicators, load and fault/event messages. Photograph the display without pressing combinations of control buttons.
- Check whether the mode followed an overload, a fault, startup, a service visit or a deliberate operating change. Review the model's operating-mode description and the site's power diagram.
- Notify the responsible administrator that the intended protection may be reduced. Assess critical workloads and shutdown readiness while a qualified person checks the cause.
- Have authorised service personnel plan any return to normal mode. Resolve the initiating condition and confirm supply/load suitability first; changing mode or operating maintenance bypass can interrupt equipment.
Confirm the result
After the approved corrective work, confirm the expected operating mode, cleared cause and supported backup test. A bypass light disappearing alone is not proof of battery health.
Before going further: Do not follow an internet button sequence to force a loaded UPS out of bypass. External bypass and mains work require qualified personnel and an interruption plan.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: UPS model, complete panel photo, load, event/fault text, when bypass began and whether an external maintenance bypass is installed.
