Frequently Asked Question
My Eaton 5E Gen2 is plugged in but has no output. How do I check start-up?
QUICK ANSWER
Being plugged into mains does not necessarily mean that the UPS output is switched on. Check the start-up procedure and indicator before assuming the sockets have failed.
Applies to: Eaton 5E Gen2. Other Eaton series can use a different control sequence.
Work through these checks
- Check the external input connection, working wall supply and correct output socket. Inspect for visible damage without opening the enclosure.
- Follow the 5E Gen2 start-up control: hold the ON/OFF button for more than two seconds and check the indicator. A brief tap may not start the output.
- If an alarm appears, record it and follow its meaning before adding load. Avoid repeatedly restarting a UPS with a fault indication.
- If a new or stored unit has a depleted battery, allow the model's specified charging period on a suitable mains supply. If it still cannot start, arrange assessment with the recorded symptoms.
Confirm the result
Confirm normal indication and output using an appropriate non-critical load. Plan any battery-operation test so it cannot interrupt a live NAS or server.
Before going further: Do not bridge outlets, bypass protection or open the UPS. A UPS can retain hazardous energy after unplugging.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: Model/serial, indicator/alarm video, charging history and whether any connected equipment receives power.
