Frequently Asked Question
My Tough cabinet's cage nuts or rack screws do not line up. What should I check?
QUICK ANSWER
Match the fasteners to the rail and align both sides within the same rack-unit group. Screw thread size, square-hole fit and vertical position are separate checks.
Applies to: Tough cabinets with square-hole rails and cage-nut-mounted equipment. Some other rack rails use different fasteners.
Work through these checks
- Check the cabinet's supplied fastener specification. The listed Tough 6U wall cabinet includes M6 cage nuts and screws, but do not assume every rack or third-party rail kit uses the same hardware.
- Look for U markings and the repeating hole pattern on both rails. Mark the intended mounting positions on the left and right at the same height before installing cage nuts.
- Confirm the cage nut fits the square hole and that the screw matches its thread. Start screws by hand without cross-threading, while another person or approved support holds the equipment as required.
- Check the equipment's ear/rail instructions and the number of mounting points needed. If a fastener binds or a rail is distorted, stop and compare an undamaged correct part rather than applying more force.

Confirm the result
The device should sit level with every required fixing securely fitted according to its instructions. A screw entering one hole does not prove the full installation supports the load.
Before going further: Do not drill the rail, mix M5 and M6 threads or loosen a loaded rail to make holes align. Use suitable handling support for heavy equipment.
If you need help
Include these details in your ticket: Cabinet model, rail-hole type, screw/cage-nut size, equipment model and a clear photo of the intended U positions.
