Why is my Tapo C200, C210, C220 or C225 offline, or only viewable on home Wi-Fi?

ACE SUPPORT · TP-LINK

First separate a camera that lost Wi-Fi from a camera that is reachable locally but cannot reach cloud services. The two cases need different checks.

Applies to

Mains-powered Tapo C200/C210/C220/C225 cameras with the Tapo app. Exact LED meanings, wireless bands and menu options depend on hardware version and firmware. Follow the manual for the label on the camera.

Before you begin

Keep important recordings before any reset. A factory reset removes the camera's configuration and requires setup again; it is not the first diagnostic step.

Do not forward camera management ports to the internet or disable the whole router firewall. Review only the relevant connection or rule.

Work through these checks

  1. Record the camera's LED state, model, hardware version and firmware. Check that its intended power supply is secure. Compare another camera if available; one device failing does not establish a brand-wide outage.
  2. Connect the phone to the same home network as the camera and turn off cellular data for a local test. Reopen Tapo and try live view. On your own device, compare without a VPN or network-filtering app that could interfere, then restore its normal settings.
  3. If local viewing also fails, check router connectivity and camera signal near its installed position. Try a reversible closer-to-router placement and keep the phone/camera on networks that permit the intended local communication. Avoid changing every Wi-Fi feature at once.
  4. If local viewing works, turn Wi-Fi off on the phone and test over working mobile data. A remote-only failure directs attention to camera cloud connectivity, internet/DNS, the phone connection or account permission, rather than automatically proving camera hardware failure.
  5. Check the app and matching camera firmware for current supported updates. Ask the router administrator to review relevant DNS or outbound filtering if the camera cannot reach cloud services. Keep the original values and compare one controlled change at a time; do not apply an unverified public forum reset sequence.

Confirm the result

Test both local Wi-Fi and the remote connection you need. Confirm a new recording is accessible if local recording is configured. Leave it running through the period when it normally drops and record any recurrence.
