Why is my Archer AX73 wired connection stuck near 100 Mbps on a faster internet plan?

ACE SUPPORT · TP-LINK

First check the negotiated Ethernet link and every device in the path. A 100 Mbps link is a different issue from a 1 Gbps link with a slow application.

Applies to

Archer AX73 with gigabit Ethernet connections. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, computer adapter and any dock, wall socket, switch or extender between the client and router.

Before you begin

Record settings before changing them and leave normal link negotiation on automatic. Forcing a rate cannot make a faulty cable or 100 Mbps adapter support gigabit.

Do not reset the router, disable all protections or install firmware for another hardware version to investigate a speed ceiling.

Work through these checks

  1. Test one computer directly on an AX73 LAN port with a short known-good cable. Stop large background transfers and use the same speed-test server for each comparison. Record download and upload separately so later changes can be judged consistently.
  2. Read the computer's Ethernet link speed in its network adapter status. Check the upstream WAN connection too. If either path negotiates only 100 Mbps, changing Wi-Fi bandwidth will not remove that wired bottleneck.
  3. Confirm that the computer adapter, USB dock, intervening switch and cables support gigabit. Swap the patch lead and LAN port individually, then bypass the dock or wall run if practical. Record which combination restores a higher link rate.
  4. If the link negotiates at 1 Gbps but transfers are still low, inspect configured client speed limits and QoS settings using the matching AX73 manual. Preserve intentional business restrictions. Compare the same client against the upstream service where the ISP permits a safe direct test.
  5. Check the units in the application before comparing figures. Mbps and MB/s are not the same measure. A file server, storage device or download source can also be the slower part, so compare an independent internet test and a known local transfer before deciding the router is faulty.

Confirm the result

Confirm the negotiated link remains at the expected rate, then repeat the same tests. Record whether the improvement affects both general internet traffic and the original slow task. A gigabit link does not guarantee every download runs at line rate.

When to contact us

Send our Support Specialist the exact AX73 revision, firmware, adapter/dock models, port/link rates and cable substitutions. Include whether the fault follows one router port, one client or one cable.
