Overview

Package Center offers a rich variety of web applications that can expand the functionality of your Synology NAS. Whether you would like to share files on the cloud, display photos with an online album, set up a VPN environment, or do much more, Package Center lets you download, install, and launch applications with a simple click. The article will guide you through different approaches of installing both applications by Synology as well as third-party applications on your Synology NAS.

1. Install applications with Package Center

In the sections below, we'll look at three different ways to install packages on Synology NAS:

1. Install applications approved by Synology
2. Install packages from third-party websites
3. Manually install packages using .spk files stored on your local computer.

Purchasing Packages

• Prior to purchasing any packages, please register a Synology MyDS Center account and log in with it. We only use the information that you share to provide better services for paid packages. For example, you can access your billing information and check your purchase history when signing in with your MyDS Center account.
• Package Center currently only accepts online payment offered by PayPal. If you would like to request a refund, please visit PayPal's official website.
• Packages currently are priced in U.S. dollar.
• For transactions that include currency conversion, your credit/debit card issuer may add additional fees that are not reflected in the price displayed. Any purchases could be subject to foreign exchange or cross-border fees by the card issuer. Your card issuer will assess all applied fees, for which Synology cannot provide reimbursement. Please contact your credit/debit card issuer for more information.

1.1 Install Synology approved applications

The easiest way to install packages is to browse Package Center, which displays a list of approved packages compatible with your Synology NAS model.

1. Go to Main Menu > Package Center.
2. All available packages can be viewed on the All tab.
3. Choose the package you want and click Install. You can also click on the package name to view more details.
4. Once installed, the package appears in the Main Menu.

1.2 Install third-party applications

Some third-party developers make it simple to check for available applications by creating an .spk repository. This section will teach you how to configure your Package Center to check for third-party application from developers.
Note: You will need to go to the third-party developer's website to find the link for their .spk repository

1. Go to Main Menu > Package Center.
2. Click on the Settings button.
3. Go to the Package Sources tab and click Add.
4. Enter a name and the URL for a third-party package repository. In the example below, we'll add the repository from www.cphub.net.
5. Click OK to save your changes. If this doesn't work, make sure you've entered an address for a valid repository.
6. The new package source now appears on the Settings > Package Sources tab. Click OK again to save your changes.
7. Now packages from www.cphub.net appear and can be installed on the Community tab. Please note it might take some time to load available packages the first time this page is opened.
Note: You can edit your settings at any time by going to Main Menu > Package Center > Settings, and clicking on the Package Sources tab.

1.3 Manually install packages from a local computer

When you want to install a specific version of an application, or when Internet access is not available for automatic download of application files, you can install applications on Synology NAS using .spk files saved on a local computer. Package .spk files are available at Synology's Download Center.

1. Go to Main Menu > Package Center.
2. Click on the Manual Install button.
3. In the window that appears, click Choose File and select the .spk file for the package you'd like to install.
4. On the confirmation page, if you would like the package to run immediately after installation, make sure the box next to Run after Installation is ticked. Then click Apply to start installation.
